Mushrooms can make the flu less terrible – here is what to know

If you suffer from the flu, you can use a Morel support.

Fungi are shown to slow the progression of cancer, lower blood pressure, improve insulin resistance, shield against brain damage, and help maintain healthy bone.

New research from McGill University in Canada reports that Beta-Glukan-a large block of fungus-can-protect lung health during the flu.

“It is extraordinary how beta-glukan can reprogram certain immune cells, such as neutrophils, to control excessive inflammation in the lungs,” the first author of study nargis khan said.

During the flu, neutrophils act as a first line of protection by migrating to the site of infection in the respiratory tract.

But very neutrophil activity can cause tissue damage and inflammation, making it difficult to breathe.

Pneumonia, which is serious inflammation of the lungs, is a frequent complication of the flu that can lead to death.

Beta-glucan has the ability to shift the role of neutrophils to reduce inflammation, McGill’s study found.

“Beta-glucan is found on the cell walls of all fungi, including some living inside and in our bodies as part of the human microbioma,” said Maziar Divangahi, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

“It is seductive to hypothesize that the levels and composition of the fungus in an individual can affect the way their immune system responds to infections, in part because of beta-glukan,” Divangui added.

The Divanghi team demonstrated that Beta-Glukan can reduce lung damage, strengthen lung function, and reduce the risk of illness and death by giving mice before being sick.

The results, which should be repeated in humans, were recently published in the journal Nature Immunology while the flu grew through the US

If you are not a big fan of mushrooms, and you do not think they will grow on you, beta-glukan can be found in wheat, rye and sea species such as kelp and nori.

Oat and barley contain the highest concentrations of soluble fiber.
